Falcon hood
This falconry hood - known in Arabic as al burqa or al qaffaz - is rounded in shape and made from pink and black leather. It features a triangular opening at the front for the falcon’s beak. The pink leather is decorated with small gold clover patterns and finished with a green leather trim along the lower edge.
At the top of this hood is a decorative gold plastic bead placed above a green leather separator that helps prevent rubbing. A short black leather plume completes the design. Black leather ties fasten at the back and a soft flexible black leather neckpiece is sewn in to ensure comfort and a secure fit for the bird.
History
Arabian falconry hoods are carefully crafted to balance beauty and function. They are designed to cover the falcon’s eyes and block light which helps keep the bird calm during training or travel.
Traditionally made by hand using fine durable leather, each hood reflects skilled craftsmanship and close attention to detail. Beyond their practical use, falconry hoods are also seen as works of art that express cultural tradition and pride.
